V. Blažek, Z. Podskalský, K. Dušková, J. Janků The famous film comedy by director Zdeněk Podskalský, Světáci (The Saints), from 1969, is perhaps known to every lover of Czech cinema. Although it is full of wonderful humour, it was made in very difficult times not long after our republic was occupied by friendly armies. Between the lines of the comedy story there is a lot of bitterness, irony and also reminiscing about better times. A trio of country facades, whose dream is to spend at least one night in a fancy restaurant, make an enormous effort to acquire at least a superficial semblance of refined manners and education. This Pygmalion-like motif gradually unfolds in a series of bizarre scenes and dialogue full of verbal and situational comedy. It's no secret that all the actors in the lead roles were given a great deal of room to improvise during filming, and it's also thanks to this that the film ranks among the funniest comedies of its time. The distinctly theatrical nature of the situations was the inspiration for our decision to translate the source material into stage form. Our adaptation does not try to copy the film, we have transferred the plot from the 1960s to the present day, but we have tried to preserve the character of the comedy and the unique humour. We believe this will result in a comedy that will appeal not only to fans of the original film, but also to a younger generation of viewers who may not be familiar with the source material. The production is directed by Kateřina Dušková and the main roles are played by Martin Polách, Zdeněk Kupka, Tomáš Váhala, Veronika Korytářová, Jana Hejret Vojtková, Kateřina Kornhäuserová, Markéta Tallerová and Martin Stránský.

Theatrical adaptation of the cult film.
