Shalosh is pianist Gadi Stern, double bassist David Michaeli and drummer Matan Assayag. The German music magazine Rolling Stones spoke of an "Israeli power trio. Heavy jazz!" - and critics from the Times even called them a "promise". The volume of rock and the danceability of electronic music meet the sensitivity of trained jazz musicians.
Their music crosses boundaries and defies any definition. "We give everything every time, physically and emotionally," says Gadi Stern about playing live. The Israeli is the pianist of the band Shalosh, Hebrew for "three". Three musicians, a brilliant sound. Shalosh, who celebrated their tenth band anniversary in 2023, are no ordinary piano trio. Dramatic arpeggios meet catchy melodies and powerful power chords. Shalosh make jazz albums that are actually rock albums. And vice versa. "Children of the 90s" is the name of one of their songs - Nirvana and Brad Mehldau are role models, as are Brahms and The Bad Plus. The trio also has a brilliant "Take On Me" cover in their program. They have long since created their own cosmos and sound more thoughtful than ever on their new album "Tales of Utopia". Within the youngest generation of jazz, Shalosh are a striking example of a new approach. “Sometimes people say that it’s not jazz: we take that as a compliment.”
