The level of brutality that dominates the Holocaust is clearly an attempt by the Nazi regime to dehumanize its victims. By successive steps to deprive the 'unwanted' of human dignity and the possibility of participation in the social, economic, cultural and social life of society. People became numbers, thereby losing their individuality, distinctiveness and dignity. Their stories were to disappear permanently from the 'memory of human civilisation'. In the case of Liberec, the process of forgetting was very rapid. Only a fraction of the original Jewish community returned to the city after the end of the Second World War and remained permanently. As a result of the process of displacement of the vast majority of German-speaking inhabitants, even those who could remember those concerned disappeared from the city. The process of forgetting was completed by the developments following the February takeover of the de facto monopoly of power in the state by the Communist Party. The aim of this exhibition is to return to the "memory" of the city a few of those who had to leave Liberec by force and whose lives were affected by the Holocaust in a fundamental and often irreversible way. The "unwanted" are to become the "wanted" and the process of dehumanization of the Holocaust victims is to be stopped, at least symbolically, and their identity is to be restored to them, because, as it is written in the Talmud, "A person is forgotten only when his name is forgotten."
