The fifth edition will take place in 2024 and chief organizer and department head of the Dreiländereck Boxing Club Stefan Brussig had a somewhat crazy idea. "Boxing usually takes place in sports halls, but for the tournament comeback I wanted a spectacular location. After a conversation with Zittau's city manager Stephan Eichner about his efforts to revitalize the city center, an idea matured that is now becoming a reality. The 5th International Zittau Boxing Tournament will take place in Zittau's city center - directly on the market square." On June 15 and 16, 2024, the HSG Turbine Zittau e.V., Boxing Club Dreiländereck department, in cooperation with the Czech club BFC Liberec, the Ottokar e.V. cultural association and the city of Zittau, will organize the 5th International Zittau Boxing Tournament under the motto Boxing against Violence. A supporting program with the slogan "Marketplace for Democracy and Sport" is planned around the boxing tournament. This is organized by the Ottokar e.V. cultural association in close cooperation with the Dreiländereck boxing club. With a variety of partners, such as the DKSB, the LSB and the Saxony police, numerous offers are being created to raise awareness among visitors and passers-by about the topics of democracy, integration through sport and violence prevention.
Exciting boxing is and will remain the central theme of this weekend in June at the Zittau market. We are expecting around 150 boxers from at least 4 countries to fight for the team cup of the city of Zittau in 2 semi-finals on Saturday (from 12:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.) and a final on Sunday (from 10:00 a.m.). The events are free to attend and of course food and drink will be provided.
We are not only breaking new ground with the venue, we are also taking a different approach this time with the design of the event posters and banners. We have announced a creative competition and asked people to send us designs for the event poster. We will put these up for voting on our Facebook account and on our Instagram channel from April 22, 2023 to April 28, 2024. The design with the most votes will then go to print and the author will receive a small cash prize, but there will also be a small financial consolation prize for the second and third place winners.
