Starting April 5, the Municipal Museums will present the first comprehensive exhibition by the nationally renowned artist "Zeitzerfall. Roman Weinig – bis hierher"

Roman Weinig (*1972 in Löbau) has been working as a freelance artist since 2010. The self-taught artist opened his first studio in Obercunnersdorf. At that time, his focus was on local painting, murals, and other commissioned works. In 2013, the subject matter and size of his works changed fundamentally, so that from 2014 onward, he needed a larger studio, which Roman Weinig moved into the old Oderwitz weaving factory. This studio offers sufficient space and light and features an exhibition space specially designed for the paintings. Weinig's work was now characterized by large-format, hyperrealistic works, executed in mixed media on canvas: critically sensitive scenes, sometimes surrealistic, or portraits as protagonists of an undefined theme, tactile painting.

In 2020, he began to change his painting technique and style again. Weinig now works in the style of the Old Masters. Glazing technique; the subject matter could be modern mysticism. What all the works have in common, however, is that they are executed with emulsion paints and are not sealed.

Hardly anyone can escape the magic of his enormous paintings: people with haunting faces, enigmatic still lifes, and surprising encounters.
