Lecture with guided apple tasting

| Botanical Gardens in Liberec

The one-hour lecture will be divided into two blocks: in the first, we will reveal the history and meaning of modern apple breeding and present the fascinating stories of each apple variety. The second block will be devoted to a guided tasting of 20 types of apples. A mix of established varieties that you know from the stores awaits you. Historical varieties, but above all exclusive novelties from the breeding station of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in Střížovice. These are currently undergoing a demanding evaluation and approval process. You therefore have an unrepeatable opportunity to meet these novelty samples. On 9 February, Dimitrij Tyč, Ph.D. will give a lecture with tasting. Dimitrij Tyč, Ph.D. has been involved in a number of projects on mapping, determination, planting and pruning of fruit trees across the Czech Republic since 2011. In 2020, he completed his PhD studies at the Faculty of Science of Charles University in Prague with a focus on molecular plant biology. Since 2018, he has been working as a researcher at the Střížovice apple tree breeding station of the Institute of Experimental Botany of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and as a deputy head. He also works as a researcher with a contribution to teaching at the Faculty of Science of Charles University in Prague. His specialization is cell biology and plant genetics. The lectures will take place in the exhibition hall of the Botanical Garden. The ticket for the lecture with guided tasting includes admission to the botanical garden.
