Podkrkonoše spiritism from the period between 1880-1940 is now an internationally known phenomenon, especially thanks to the so-called medium drawings, which were created during séances and after 1989 began to be included in important exhibitions, for example in France or Austria. Nová Paka was the centre of the "spirit belief movement", where today one can visit the permanent museum exhibition Spiritism in Podkrkonoší. In addition to drawings, there are also interesting literary echoes of Spiritism in the works of Jan Opolski, Karel Sezima, Josef Kocourek and other writers associated with Nová Paka from the late 19th and first half of the 20th century. And also the phenomenon of spiritist photography, long dismissed for its quite transparent technical fakery, but today increasingly sought after as a genre with quite special aesthetic qualities.
