Motoring lecture: cars and architecture

| North Bohemian Museum Liberec

The author begins by introducing the origin and gradual expansion of motoring in the Liberec and Jablonec regions from the first Liebieg car, through the founding of the first car club to the issuance of registration plates. He continues with the development of automobile garages in Czechoslovakia, Europe and elsewhere in the world.
For the most part, however, the author devotes the book to detailed descriptions of public, hotel, and large private garages, the premises of various car and motorcycle dealers, as well as auto repair shops and auto parts dealers, including plans of each premises with photographs from history to the present day. Interesting buildings of petrol pumps or former toll booths are not neglected. Everything is supplemented by various period advertisements. The 300-page book vividly recalls the great boom of motorization in this then rich region of North Bohemia.
Unfortunately, the book was published only in a limited edition, which is almost out of print. The last copies will be available at the author's lecture, which will take place on Tuesday 27 February 2024 at 6:00 pm in the North Bohemian Museum Liberec.
Admission to the lecture is voluntary.

AUTOS & & ARCHITECTURE, Motorist buildings in the district of Liberec and Jablonec nad Nisou. This is the name of a new book published at the end of 2023, which will be presented to the participants of the lecture by the author himself, Jaroslav Zeman.
