One of the most valuable objects in the collections of the Mladá Boleslav Region Museum is the Mladá Boleslav gradual by Janicek Zmilelý from Písek. This voluminous manuscript liturgical hymnal was written in the first decade of the 16th century. It has over 400 parchment sheets measuring 70 x 45 centimetres, mostly richly decorated with figural initials. The artistic decoration is supplemented by a number of smaller drawings of faces, often in various forms, comic or fanciful. The main illuminator of the work, Janíček Zmilelý of Písek, ranks among the most artistically prominent Czech book illuminators of the turn of the Middle Ages and the modern period.


The manuscript liturgical hymnal from the early 16th century will be displayed in the form of reproductions on outdoor exhibition panels.
