The exhibition will present the impressionistic line of Helena Emingerová and Max Švabinský, which in the first half of the twentieth century transformed into the dense line of Josef Čapek and Václav Špála. S the second half of the 20th century we touch upon the informel line of Vladimír Boudník, the geometric order of Vladislav Mirvald and the delicate line of Nadězda Plíšková. We cannot forget the colourful lines of Zdeněk Sýkora, the rasters of Marie Blabolilová or the layered lines of Jan Měřička. We will follow lines of all kinds and shapes to see how form intertwines with content and content with form. We will look at how the line is influenced by the personal setting of the artist and to what extent the artist is influenced by the time and style in which he or she works.


How exactly does form influence content? How does the line in graphic techniques translate into its meaning and vice versa, how does the subject matter determine the technique of graphic works - these are the questions that the exhibition LINES! seeks to answer, which will present the graphic work of artists from the late 19th century to the present day.
