GINZKEY 1843 / 1873 / 1893 / 2023

| North Bohemian Museum Liberec

The selected black-and-white photographs are based on glass negatives by an unknown author, which the North Bohemian Museum acquired in 2020. It should be recalled that there were approximately 350 pieces, of which 95 were subsequently restored with the financial contribution of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the Liberec municipal district of Vratislavice nad Nisou. Visitors can enjoy photographs from the life of the family of the founder of the textile empire Ignatz Ginzkey (1819-1876) or a secret visitor who unexpectedly appeared on the factory premises. There are also examples of how large-format carpets were photographed or how the Vratislavik monument to the Emperor was to look. After the death of the founder Ignatz Ginzkey, the carpet and blanket company was successfully run by his son Willy Ginzkey (1856-1934), who together with Baron Heinrich Liebieg was the founder of the Liberec Museum (founded in 1873). Ginzkey, an art collector and patron of the arts, initially served only as a member of the museum's curatorial board, but in 1893 he was appointed president of the curatorial board of the North Bohemian Museum of Industry, with Franz Ferdinand d'Este, the heir to the Austrian throne, as the museum's protector. The exhibition was created to celebrate 150 years since the founding of the North Bohemian Museum and to commemorate the 180th anniversary of the beginning of carpet production in Vratislavice nad Nisou.

In the FOG museum space there are four themes connected with the famous Vratislavice carpet factory and the important Ginzkey family.
