LIPA MUSICA

Concert by Tomáš Jamník (cello) and Josef Špaček (violin) as part of the Lípa Musica festival. Paths... where paths cross and where they diverge, what paths we choose for ourselves and what paths are fateful and inevitable... this is the prism through which violinist Josef Špaček and cellist Tomáš Jamník look at the works of Leoš Janáček, Gideon Klein and Erwin Schulhoff, written in the span of only thirty-five years of the 20th century. Janáček and Schulhoff longed for Russia in the name of Slavic reciprocity, while Gideon Klein was fascinated by Italy. Although their destinies were mostly marked by tragic historical events, all composers have one thing in common. Despite life's misfortunes, they also managed to project a piece of optimism into their compositions, confirming the Exupéryan statement that "Only the journey has a price. Only it lasts, whereas the goal is the illusion of the pilgrim, walking from ridge to ridge as if the meaning were in the goal reached." A deep, virtuosic, authentic evening teetering on the edge of the technical possibilities of both instruments is a journey that is more than worth the price... especially if the guides are phenomenal musicians returning once again to Lime Music!
