Adventure piece based on the DEFA film of the same name

Friendship that overcomes enmity, the struggle for freedom and justice, and a love that is almost impossible – this is what the film “Blood Brothers”, shot in 1975 and based on the screenplay by American actor Dean Reed, is about.

The soldier Jack Birch, known as Harmonika, took part in the Sand Creek massacre in 1864 as the flag bearer of a cavalry squadron. A Cheyenne camp, who believe they are under the protection of the US flag, is attacked. Under the impression of the crimes of the soldiers, Harmonika deserted. He finds Rehkitz, an injured young Indian woman, nurses her back to health and seeks contact with her brother Harter Felsen. However, he is suspicious of the white man. Harmonica is only slowly gaining his trust. Fawn and Harmonica marry and live together as part of the Cheyenne community until the young woman is murdered by white men. Harmonika seeks revenge and goes in search of the culprit.

The Native Americans from the point of view of a white soldier: In contrast to the Westerns produced in the Federal Republic, the DEFA Indian films attached great importance to a historically accurate implementation of the story.

Director Gero Vierhuff takes on the material of the popular DEFA classic filmed with Gojko Mitić in 1975 and brings the adventure epic to the Jonsdorf forest stage.‎.‎
