The tourist walk Lausitzer 50 is approaching

»It was a beautiful afternoon, one of the warm ones that March gave us before it cooled down again. The pub in Hrádek V zatáčce was buzzing, the staff was running from table to table, there was a smell of food and the guests were sipping their beers contentedly. A group of men sat at a table, a bit away from all the hustle and bustle, at another work meeting. The topic? The Lausitzer 5«

I sit between them and listen, sometimes I ask a question so that I can write an article for the Grottauer Nachrichten, which may appear elsewhere. In the end I stay more than two hours and I must admit that this was a pleasant meeting with real enthusiasts.

It had been apparent for some time, the branch of the Club of Czech Tourists in Hrádek nad Nisou has changed its management. The group that managed to organize the legendary hike for 50 years, even in the last years when most of the members had become really old, has been overtaken. They deserve admiration and respect, no one forgets that, but a generational change was inevitable. Not that the current members did not participate in the club's activities, but the younger ones took the reins and responsibility. Petr Nývlt became the new chairman, bringing friends into the club, including his brother. "Brothers as they should be," he laughs, and immediately adds how pleasantly surprised he was by what they accomplished when everyone set to work. Brother Martin immediately names other new members who are hard at work: Ondra Mlejnecký, Vašek Patočka, Lukáš Vojáček. Everyone is responsible for something.

Ondra runs the company and cooperates with forestry companies. He knows the Lusatian forests in our country and also across the border in Germany. He became a route planner. It's not enough to just propose a route, you also have to get permission from the forest managers and respectfully coordinate where the route can run to avoid complications. The routes are designed to take hikers to new places this year. For example, the popular 25 leads to Grabštejn, Bílý Kostel and Vápeňák. Besides the traditional Luže and Hvozd, the Lausitzer 50 also offers beautiful places in the German part of the mountains. This year it will be very demanding and the organizers warn that not everyone will make it. Prospective participants must be well prepared, they can expect an estimated twelve hours of drudgery uphill and downhill.

Lukáš Vojáček has created a website of the walks. It can be found at www.luzicka50.cz and already contains data on individual routes, important information and, last but not least, the possibility to register including payment of the participation fee. All this in Czech, Polish and German. The website is the first big news we would like to mention today. Yes, the legendary hike did not have a website until now, and in the same breath we add that with it the Lausitzer 50 also got a Facebook profile.

Vašek walks the proposed routes himself, and sometimes he even gets lost and finds completely new variants. At the same time, he took a liking to marking trails and took his father's place among the markers. Friends jokingly add that he only sets the markers so that he can find the way again the next time.

Last but not least, tourism was and is also about meeting and making new friends. The current administration of tourists from Hrádek Nad Nisou would like to restore the historically good relations with colleagues from Chrastava. The cooperation with a tourist association in nearby Bogatynia is to be further developed. They also won a strong partner for the organization of the event in the children and youth house Drak in Hrádek.

The young blood is thus following the best of what their predecessors were able to build. I left the interesting meeting with a good feeling, which I tried to bring closer to you. With the zeal and ideas of this group, I am not worried about the further fate of the Lausitzer 50. They showed up at the right time.

On May 7, 2022, the Lausitzer 50 will enter its next fifty years of existence. So don't hesitate and sign up!
