Carving knives, smaller chisels, sanders and pieces of wood for further, independent creation will be available for purchase on site. More experienced carvers can work on a puppet or a statue. By donating to the course you can make your friends happy. We will work with simple tools: chisels, mallet, rasp, file, axe, pole, saw and carving knife, mostly with soft, lime wood. The more adventurous can try harder woods: walnut, cherry, birch, ash or elm.
We will show you the possibilities of sharpening tools. You will learn a lot about different woods, try out how differently they are carved, how to distinguish between them, and when you experience what birch is like, what ash is like, and why you prefer this or that, you may learn something new about yourself. Or you might start thinking about what wood to use to make your family table, bed, kitchen and so on... WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
The course is suitable for complete beginners as well as for those who already have experience with carving. Adults and children from 12 years old can come.
PS: Although this is a one-day course, if you want to delve more into wood carving, you can come on both Saturday and Sunday, or Friday and Saturday.
We'll be carving one of the products you choose: a pastry bowl, fruit bowl, soup bowl, or other yummy item. All tools will be loaned to participants. The instructor will prepare the semi-finished product for you, so you don't have to take anything except the joy of working with your hands.
