A quarter of a century with the Malevil Cup

The Malevil Cup International MTB Marathon is not only a sporting challenge, but also a unique social project. It has gradually and purposefully become an important part of the European sports calendar. It has contributed to the significant promotion of the Liberec Region as a unique destination for cycling, sports and tourism lovers, highlighting its natural beauty and rich history.  The Malevil Cup is not just a race, it is a chance to meet friends with a common interest and lifestyle. Age and place of birth are not obstacles.  Thanks to the enthusiasm of dozens of volunteers, the Malevil Cup has written hundreds of unforgettable stories over the years;
The first edition of the Malevil Cup kicked off on Sunday, May 7, 2000, then called the "Lusatian 50". The first edition was attended by 510 starters, on a course of 50 kilometres. Since the first edition, the route also ran on the territory of Germany near Lückendorf. At that time, the Czech Republic was not part of the European Union, nor in Schengen. Starting runners had to show a valid passport at the starting number issue. The first ever winners were Hana Pecherová and Petr Kordík.
The Malevil Cup has come a long way in 25 years and written thousands of sports stories.  No one in 2000 believed that such a sporting event could be organized by a handful of enthusiastic organizers from Jablonné v Podještědí. From the very beginning, the plan was to organize a race across the state border. Also, it would have a positive sporting spirit and would be very well secured in all respects.   As the fame of the race grew, the organizing team stayed and grew. To give you an idea, on race day over 250 organisers are involved in the organisation, including from the German (Saxon) part of the route. Thousands of thanks to all of them!!!
Every year the starters have given the organizers tremendous energy and new motivation to push the race further.  Thanks to this they were able to host the Czech National Championships twice. Repeatedly welcome the world's top marathoners in the UCI MTB marathon series. Last but not least, they reached their highest organizing peak yet, hosting the European Mountain Bike Marathon Championships twice in the Lusatian Mountains in 2012 and 2022. In 2012, Kristián Hynek became the European champion and the Czech national anthem was played.
