Rudolf (Christian Friedel), Hedwig (again the excellent Sandra Hüller) and their children live in a large house with a beautiful, well-kept garden. Every day they celebrate with a dinner together, reminisce about their beloved Italy, enjoy weekend trips to the water and walks with friends. However, from behind the walls of their home, disturbing noises and the occasional desperate scream can be heard. Rudolf Höss is the commander of the Auschwitz concentration camp.


This chilling film about the banality of evil follows the daily life of concentration camp commander Rudolf Höss and his family. Thanks to its exceptional treatment, it took home the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival.
