OUTER SPACE

Contemporary studio glass and jewelry

Forty Czech artists - glassmakers and jewelers - have processed the theme of space into unique objects. The universe is omnipresent—around us and within us, and select writers respond to perceptions of this concept in a variety of ways.

Some of their work reflects the unique shapes and colors of cosmic bodies and formations - planets, stars, comets, black holes, nebulae, meteorites or galaxies. Others turn into work various technical devices that move in space and observe it from Earth, thanks to human scientific research. Also an integral part of the exhibition are works that materialize the higher principles of how the universe works, thus transforming this concept into the broader context of the universe.

The result is unique artistic output in the form of glass objects or jewelry, which, through various techniques or combinations of materials, bring closer the author's idea of the form of a distant world or its principles in artistic stylization.

The most common material in the exhibition is glass, which by its nature suitably stimulates the idea of the mystery and boundlessness of the universe and the higher principles of being in contrast to the pettiness of our earthly life.

Exhibition curators: Kateřina Nora Nováková and Dagmar Havlíčková
