Uschi Brüning and band leader Günther Fischer recorded a legendary studio album in the mid-70s. Now the two music legends are returning to the stage together and will delight old and new fans. The Brüning/Fischer albums have not yet been re-released, but there is a comeback for Günther Fischer's 80th birthday on stage!
The audience can expect a first-class journey into the traditional world of blues, gospel, swing and modern jazz.
In 1972 the Amiga LP "Uschi Brüning and the Günther Fischer Quintet" was released in the GDR. In 1974 the LP "Uschi Brüning and the Günther Fischer Quintet with Symphony Orchestra" was released. 45 years later there is their sensational comeback in the international top 100 of the "Best Albums (that nobody knows)", compiled by the German music magazine "Rolling Stone". The extraordinary thing about this music to this day is that it is both contemporary and timeless. Jazz singer Uschi Brüning shines across the entire stylistic spectrum, brilliantly staged by the excellent bandleader and composer Günther Fischer. No trace of musical staidness, instead a progressive freshness that is audibly inspired by the American jazz and soul of that time. Sophisticated jazz-rock arrangements combine with summery lightness to create a charming mixture full of esprit. A passionate liaison of playful improvisation and catchy catchiness that delights melody-loving listeners as much as fans of intricate sophistication. The song “Welch ein Zufall” is an example of this, radiating the same magic as the hits that Günther Fischer wrote for Manfred Krug in the early to mid-seventies.
The song “Solo Sunny” from the legendary DEFA film, which will also be heard in the concert, was written by Günther Fischer, as were international film scores, including for Marlene Dietrich's last film “Just a Gigolo” with David Bowie and Kim Novak. Further film music was created for Hollywood productions with Robert Mitchum, Sean Penn, Tony Curtis, Martin Sheen and Armin Mueller-Stahl.
Over time, Uschi Brüning has cemented her reputation as the grand dame of German jazz. After the turn of the millennium, she worked a lot with Manfred Krug - in the studio and live. In a way, this is a full circle, because for music connoisseurs, the names Fischer/Brüning/Krug are a real triad for fantastic jazz entertainment. The excellent band musicians Rüdiger Krause (guitar), Tom Götze (bass), Matthias Bätzel (piano) and Wolfgang "Zicke" Schneider are involved in this spectacular comeback. Without the drummer, such a reunion would be unthinkable, as he formed the musical backbone of the Fischer Quintet and Uschi Brüning in the 1970s.
Günther Fischer (saxophone); Uschi Brüning (vocals); Rüdiger Krause (guitar); Tom Götze (bass); Matthias Bätzel (piano); Wolfgang “Zicke” Schneider (drums)
