Opera by Giacomo Puccini

Rome in June 1800. The Republic was crushed. Rome is now an authoritarian police state led by Baron Scarpia. Those who think differently politically have nothing to laugh about and are persecuted. The painter Mario Cavaradossi, lover of the famous opera singer Floria Tosca, is an opponent of Scarpia's regime. Because he helps Cesare Angelotti, the former consul of the Roman Republic, to escape, he is arrested, interrogated and tortured. Scarpia also has personal motives, because he desires Tosca himself. Due to his intrigue in the church of Sant ̓Andrea della Valle, the jealous diva unsuspectingly puts the pursuers on the right track. Scarpia has the painter tortured in his palace and thus extorts the secret of Angelotti's whereabouts from Tosca. When Cavaradossi is sentenced to death and is to be executed the next morning at Castel Sant'Angelo, Scarpia presents the desperate Tosca with the terrible choice of either surrendering to him or otherwise being complicit in the death of her lover. Can Scarpia triumph over Tosca or she over him?

An exciting opera thriller, a thriller and, thanks to Puccini's passionate music, one of the most famous operas of all. In addition to the two Cavaradossi arias, it has one highlight in particular: Tosca's aria "Vissi d'arte, vissi d'amore" ("I lived only for art and love").‎.‎
