Gerhart-Hauptmann-Theater...

Ballet of the North Bohemian Theatre Usti nad Labem.

"Swan Lake", the first ballet composition by Peter I. Tchaikovsky from 1875-77, is considered by ballet audiences and music lovers all over the world to be the greatest and, not without reason, the most popular as well as the most performed classical-romantic fairy-tale ballet in the international ballet repertoire.

As the famous ballerina Galina Ulanova said, "the most beautiful ballet you can imagine". However, the worldwide success of "Swan Lake" is not based solely on Tchaikovsky's catchy and rousing music, but also on the now world-famous choreography by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov from the St. Petersburg model production of 1895.

Just as "Carmen" is the most performed opera in the international opera repertoire, "Swan Lake" is the most performed ballet in the classical ballet ensemble.

The dance ensemble of the North Bohemian Theatre remains faithful to this ballet tradition and yet creates a production that always keeps an eye on today's view of classical ballet art.
