Oskar Nedbal, Zbyněk Matějů, Marika Blahoutová Princess Hyacinth is a full-length ballet by Oskar Nedbal. It premiered in 1911 at the National Theatre in Prague, choreographed and directed by Achille Viscusi. The story of the ballet is set in the castle of Trosky, the mystery of which attracts to this day. A village blacksmith longs to obtain a mythical treasure and thus reaches the castle. He meets the beautiful princess Hyacinth, who is kidnapped by the sorcerer Aratron. In an attempt to rescue her, he reaches the mythical realm of Hyacinth. The fairy tale story is not lacking in humour, dramatic moments, even a loving ending. The poster for the premiere of Princess Hyacinth was created by the extraordinary Alfons Mucha, who filled it with many hidden meanings and symbols. It is clear that this was a work (like Mozart's Magic Flute) with overlaps into other "non-theatrical" contexts. Alfons Mucha's beautiful Art Nouveau Princess Hyacinth has become an integral part of our artistic wealth - and it would be a shame if Nedbal's magical ballet of the same name - were to fall into obscurity.

A humorous fairytale story from the Bohemian Paradise.
