Divadlo F.X.Šaldy...

Timur Vermes A chilling comedy that raises many questions about the problems of today's society. At the heart of the play is a simple fictional model situation. Seventy years after his infamous departure, Adolf Hitler wakes up in surprise on the site of his bunker in present-day Berlin. The city has changed beyond recognition, it is full of foreigners and a woman, one Angela Merkel, rules Germany in his place. How will this 'exotic', with his unchanging and nowadays somewhat ridiculous views, be viewed by his fellow citizens? And how will he look at them? After the initial and quite understandable shock, he quickly bounces back and becomes, thanks to his deranged but consistent views, a star of show business. From TV and media it is only a step to politics, his popularity is growing and no one knows where it will all stop. This bitter political satire, originally written as a novel and later adapted into film and theatre, highlights the great dangers that lurk in contemporary Western European society. It shows how, despite decades of democracy, it can be completely defenceless against demagogues of the coarsest kind, whose main driving force is an unscrupulous desire for success. That this is a problem that affects us deeply perhaps needs no emphasis. The production will be directed by Zdeněk Bartoš, for whom this will be his first work in the Liberec theatre.

A chilling comedy about the dangers of populism.
