Historian Martin Nekola has been studying the fate of Czech exiles and compatriots around the world for many years. In the course of his research he has discovered many forgotten stories in foreign archives. He has met many inspiring personalities and has gradually introduced the public to their interesting life stories. Many Czech men and women who were forced to leave their homeland at different times and under different circumstances have achieved extraordinary successes or accomplished remarkable things abroad. For example, do you know who held the record for the longest serving member of the US Congress for four decades? Who opened the first opera house in New Zealand? Who built a famous ski resort in Australia? Who was the chief military advisor and friend of the Ethiopian emperor? Or who bought the land in Peru under which archaeologists uncovered a mythical ancient tomb with tons of gold? These, and many others, were our compatriots whose stories are worth remembering. The lecture with a rich pictorial presentation will take place in the hall of KLUB s.r.o. at Masarykovo náměstí 299, entrance fee is 50 CZK. Come and hear how Czech exiles influenced history in different parts of the world. We look forward to seeing you!
