Musica Bohemica specializes mainly in the interpretation and processing of anonymous folk music, but also instrumental compositions of the High Baroque, great oratorios and contemporary music. Musica Bohemica Praha currently has eight musicians and two singers. (It can also be expanded into an orchestra as needed). The artistic director is Jaroslav Krček, who has been creating the core repertoire since its foundation (1975). In addition to works written for the ensemble, Musica Bohemica also performs historical music. The interpretation and treatment of anonymous and folk music is special and unique. The ensemble has recorded and released around fifty CD titles, music for several films and theatre plays, and cooperates with Czech radio and television. It has given concerts not only throughout Europe but also overseas. The ensemble's focus is not only on its own presentation in concerts for musically educated audiences, but it also focuses on educational concerts for young listeners. The artistic director, conductor and founder of the ensemble is Jaroslav Krček. Since his student years he has been interested in folklore and with it in anonymous musical expressions of Czech culture. This is a musical branch that he understands perfectly and has a warm emotional relationship with. His arrangements and adaptations of folk pieces have a completely distinctive style and differ significantly from simple arrangements in their high degree of stylization. All this activity of Jaroslav Krček is aimed at awakening in his listeners an affection for folk and historical anonymous music. Therefore, he tries to present it vividly, without academic rigidity, but with the spontaneity that belongs to this art, while at the same time presenting his audience with an artistically refined expression that can withstand the highest critical standards. Alongside this distinct historical and folkloric interest runs a second strand of his work: his own compositional work in the symphonic, chamber and vocal fields. In this sphere, too, Jaroslav Krček has distinct opinions that are not subject to fashion. He never professed any orthodox artistic beliefs, he did not allow himself to be bound by predetermined rules and did not submit to the dictates of all kinds of compositional techniques. Instead, he strove to make his music an ornament to life, to bring satisfaction and spiritual uplift, to captivate his listeners. He is an equally distinctive conductor. Programme.
