Cake and sparkling wine instead of medications: in a small Danish nursing home called Dagmarsminde there is always a reason to give a toast, whether it's the queen's birthday, a wedding anniversary or a goodbye. The residents here live in a kind of shared house with an unusual treatment method. The dedicated founder, May Bjerre Eiby, calls it "shepherding". Touch, conversations, the joy of community and experiences in nature are part of the recipe. In their sensitive documentary, director Louise Detlefsen shows, modeled by a unique nursing home and its residents, a revolutionary, encouraging long-term care concept which deals with the most current question of why we want to live, age and die and what we wish for our loved ones. COMPASSION provides a heart-warming and inspiring glimpse into the every-day life of people with dementia and into a world in which the power of human closeness knows ow to create little miracles.
