Gerhart-Hauptmann-Theater...

...on Wednesdays the opera choir performs!

Get to know Görlitz, learn interesting facts, linger in the most beautiful corners and squares with cheerful songs and madrigals - performed by the Görlitz Opera Choir - and enjoy the timeless liveliness of the richly gifted city with your eyes and ears.

The Görlitz Opera Choir consists of around 20 singers from eight countries and usually performs works such as Richard Wagner's Tannhäuser, Johann Strauss' Fledermaus or Andrew Lloyd Webber's Evita on the stages of the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Theater in Görlitz and Zittau. Their cultural work in the region also includes guest performances such as opera and operetta performances in Bautzen and Hoyerswerda. The ladies and gentlemen, who all have professional singing training, are currently performing in Mozart's Don Giovanni, Leo Falls' Der Liebe Augustin and Jerry Herman's musical rarity Mack and Mabel together with the local music theater ensemble and the Neue Lausitzer Philharmonie.‎

During the musical stroll through Görlitz, the alleys and squares themselves form the backdrop for their polyphonic singing, here no operas are heard, but artistically refreshing choral settings (mainly) by old masters - in complete harmony with the historic gables and portals of the city to place the music in the everyday hustle and bustle of past heydays, but also to create moments of special awareness of life for today.

Choir director Albert Seidl, who himself is a "newcomer" and knows from his own experience what there is to discover in Görlitz, brings the inclined crowd of visitors - with a gentle swing, as he also directs his opera choir - to the most important sights, but also the hidden beauty of the "Pearl on the Neisse".‎
