Two not-so-traditional hitchhikers are waiting on the exit road at night. Forty-something, slightly uptight Margot, who has run away from her daughter's eighteenth birthday party and whose escape is unlikely to be noticed even by her husband. And Claude, a generation older, who escapes from her retirement home with the ease of a gangster in a flamboyant dressing gown and pursues a life of adventure and love affairs that she has yet to experience.
A road movie of two very different women who might not normally have a word to say to each other, but their shared escape from familiar stereotypes brings their paths together is a wonderful opportunity for the two leads, sparkling with kind, genuine humour and humanity.
