Guided tour of the exhibition Cabinet of Curiosities

| North Bohemian Museum Liberec

Marie Mrňávková studied in Rony Plesl's studio at the Secondary School of Glass Arts in Železný Brod and Glass Design at the University of Applied Arts in Ústí nad Labem. However, it turned out that she preferred soft materials and started to work in textile design for young children. For twenty years she created fabric toys for them, most recently under the brand Brodita. The typical feature of her toy creations was embroidery, first by hand and later by machine. Since 2023, she has concentrated on free textile work, centred on mysterious forest spirits and creatures, through which she brings a fairy-tale and magical atmosphere to the world around us. Moths with personified forms, mythical sea creatures and mythological beings are an endless source of inspiration for the artist. The current exhibition includes richly embroidered creatures that paraphrase popular cabinets of curiosities, full of wondrous natural oddities.
Marie Mrňávková lives in Kamenický Šenov in the so-called Bata house. It includes a sewing workshop and a studio, where she is building a small cosy cabinet of curiosities and an interactive puppet space for her upcoming book Mr. Baron's Boutique.

We invite you to a guided tour of the exhibition "Cabinet of Curiosities" with its author Maria Mrňávková.
