The concert, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the birth and 30th anniversary of the untimely death of Karel Kryl, the unique poet and voice of the nation, will take place at the Eurocentre's Summer Stage on Thursday 23 May at 19:00. Protestsongs such as "Majesty the Executioner", "King and the Clown" and "Passage Revolt" are not only an important reminder of history, but also an opportunity to look at contemporary events through Kryl's work.
"I miss Kryl's wisdom, rebellious voice and insight in today's world. Commemorating his important life anniversary with an extraordinary concert programme is a unique opportunity for me personally, but I believe for all of us, to realise that the things Karel Kryl sang about are still valid. He was a rebel who chopped like a sabre with his words and weaved his verses into the living. He was a great Czech poet.
