The Union of Librarians and Information Workers of the Czech Republic announced the 15th annual March - Readers' Month event and decided to dedicate it to the youngest. Therefore, the main motto of this year's event was chosen as the slogan "With a book through life". In this way, the libraries want to clearly declare that they are also there for the youngest visitors who are still finding their way to books. And libraries are giving them a helping hand.
Many libraries in our country are involved in the international Bookstart project, in which we try to bring children as young as toddlers into libraries, preparing a programme for them and helping them to develop their future reading skills. And it is to these customers (and not only to them) that this year's March - Readers' Month is dedicated.
Liberec Library has been involved in the Bookstart project since the very beginning. Our reading club for the youngest children Kolibřík has become very popular during its existence and its capacity is constantly filled. Many children have already passed through it and many of them have become our readers and come to the library with their parents on a regular basis;
The youngest children will also be the focus of this year's traditional national Reader of the Year competition, which is part of March - Readers' Month. This year, the competition is called "The Biggest of the Littlest" and we are looking for a reader from the youngest age group, up to 6 years old, who has become a prolific and regular reader through active participation in our Hummingbird Club. The "Biggest of the Littlest" of the Liberec Region will then represent us in the national competition.
