Giacomo Puccini's famous opera La bohème, which has rightly been one of the stalwarts of the world's stages since 1896 and currently ranks fourth in the list of the most performed operas, returns to the repertoire of the opera company after a long time. The production was staged at the F. X. Šalda Theatre on 9 March 2018 and despite the fact that it was only on the programme for a year, it was an extraordinary audience success. However, cruel fate does not only affect opera stories, but also real life, and therefore, due to the worldwide pandemic and the closure of theatres, this opera masterpiece could not be sufficiently reprised. So we will present a revival of this audience favourite in February 2024. Come and be enchanted once again by Puccini's masterpiece set in mid-19th century Paris. Join us in experiencing the joy, love and despair that the poet Rodolfo and his Mimi find on their journey. One of the most famous operatic staples on the world's stages, it premiered in 1896, conducted by Arturo Toscanini, to a libretto by Giuseppe Giacosa and Lugi Illica. The inspiration for the creators came from the Scenes de la vie de boheme and the world of the second half of the 19th century, which was slowly turning away from the clichés of Romanticism towards a naturalistic view of man and his corners. Along with naturalism came verismo, of which Giacomo Puccini was a master, even though it might not have seemed so to the audience of the time at the premiere of La Boheme. The touching story of young Mimi, a talented poet and his friends underlines the hope that true friendships, purity of relationships and striving to be in the world not only for oneself, but above all for the other, are still the most important tools for happiness in our lives. Performed in the original Italian with Czech and German subtitles.

A touching story of a great love thwarted by a cruel fate.
