The stories of the Czechoslovak airmen who fought against the Nazis on the wings of the British Royal Air Force during World War II never cease to fascinate us. Alexander Hess was among the heroes who put their lives on the line, surviving the hardships of war only to be persecuted for it later in their country. We are dedicating a new exhibition to his personality and career, which will open at the Metoděj Vlach Aviation Museum on 17 April 2024. The opening starts at 5 p.m. Alexander Hess fought in the 310th Squadron of the RAF, which he was the first Czechoslovakian to command. Although he was the recipient of many decorations, both Czechoslovak and British, his name never made it into the textbooks. In 1948 he was forced to go into exile. He spent the rest of his life in the USA, where he worked as a consultant for Pan Am, one of the largest international airlines. He died in Florida in 1981. He was rehabilitated in his native country after 1989 and received the Order of the White Lion in memoriam in 2021;
