"Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy." Beethoven

The Quatuor Danel is presenting all of Beethoven's string quartets at this year's Lausitz Festival in the order in which they were composed. The finale will include the composer's last completed work, his String Quartet No. 16 op. 135 in F major, and the Rondo, which was subsequently intended to be the final movement of the 13th String Quartet instead of the Great Fugue. Beethoven complied with his publisher's request to find a more conventional ending for this - the critic of the premiere found the fugue movement "Chinese." Since then, experts have been arguing whether this new, now catchy ending was not primarily a marketing strategy or whether the rondo did not show a sophisticated summary of the genre.
