A four-picture detective comedy set in a mountain chalet near Chamomix. Daniel Corban reports the disappearance of his wife, with whom he has been living for a short time. An investigation is launched and the commissioner has doubts about the real situation, but is unable to prove them in the usual way. With the help of several other people, an absurd situation arises, a kind of absurd psychodrama in which Corban is subjected to great psychological pressure. The play alternates between comic situations and masterfully handled moments of horror. This play is the author's first play and was an immediate worldwide success, winning the "Waterfront of Goldsmiths" award in 1961. A new translation is based on the author's notes and edits in 1987.
