Jon, a middle-aged man, wants to fulfill his mother's wishes and bury her in her home village at the remote end of Iceland. When his mother dies, he puts her in the back seat of his car and the journey to the other side of the country begins... Accompanying the deceased on the last journey is naturally a sad thing most of the time. In this black comedy, however, it's hilarious. The director's compassionately sympathetic approach and the actors' love for their characters are so exceptional that the film has become one of the year's greatest cinematic experiences for many viewers.
