Gabriele Watterott's "narrative collages" are created when she deliberately meets other people, often celebrities. With her brush, she then brings the essences of these encounters onto her canvas in a collage-like and narrative manner - by bringing together, aptly chosen, symbolic aspects of the lives of these people in a visual portrait. The exhibition shows more recent narrative collages by the Zittau painter, after her exhibition had to be closed again after just a few days in the first attempt in 2021 due to pandemic restrictions.
Two protagonists of one of her new collages also accompanied her and the guests of the vernissage musically through the evening: Dietrich Kessler on saxophone and flute, and Eberhard Klunker on guitar. Both were no strangers to the GDR's rock music scene. Klunker also played with the "Hansi-Biebl-Blues-Band" and "Modern Soul" and Kessler was the bandleader of the legendary "Klosterbrüder", who later had to rename themselves "Gruppe Magdeburg", which had fateful consequences. This led to the topic of "Stasi prison and Baltic Sea escape" for the musical talk afternoon on January 11th in the Kunstlade.
The exhibition is open regularly from Tuesday to Friday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and can be seen until March 16th, 2025. Gallery visits can also be arranged individually outside of the times mentioned.
