Dance piece for the whole family
Music by Leonhard Bernstein | Book by James Matthew Barrie | German version by Erich Kästner | Lyrics by Leonhard Bernstein | German translation by Isolde E. Ruck
A true milestone: Not only will we be able to perform this piece as a dance piece for the first time in the world - Bernstein's wonderful work will also be seen for the first time in Germany as a full-fledged stage production.
Peter Pan, a boy who refuses to grow up and instead chooses to live in a world of fantasy, free from the constraints of adulthood: truly, the embodiment of the human desire to preserve the innocence and wonder of childhood , and rejecting the responsibilities of adulthood.
In Peter and Wendy, J. M. Barrie championed human imagination and fantasy as central, indispensable components of the human psyche and spoke of the importance of playfulness in human life. He also looks at darker aspects of human nature: jealousy, betrayal and the fear of death that are often associated with adulthood.
In addition to the great music, the song lyrics written by Leonard Bernstein himself create another narrative level through which we gain insights into the psyche of these characters and their motivations from Bernstein's perspective.
Cross-disciplinary production: dance company, music theater ensemble, opera choir of the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Theater, New Lausitzer Philharmonie
